One umbra witch left12/7/2023 Without it I probably would have got hardly any loot, and I like my loot. For instance the one accessory I managed to afford – the Mallet of Rewards, helps me to get more spoils after battle, especially if I use torture attacks. You can also buy lollipops with health boosts, and extra items and accessories to bulk up your max stats and grant effects that will help your gameplay. These techniques range from slide smashes to the ability to change into a crow to fly in midair and the ability to change into bats directly after a hit and regain health. The shopkeeper/bartender/demon wrangler Rodin who runs a shop called the Gates of Hell has second sets of weapons for you to buy, along with extra techniques Bayonetta can learn. In some boss fights witch time is effectively the only time you’ll get without a severe risk of being pummelled yourself, so don’t be afraid of using it a lot as it comes in extremely handy. This precious couple of extra seconds gives you plenty of time to smash the shit out of them. For those not familiar, Witch Time is a dodging mechanic that slows down time for your enemies upon executing a successful dodge. This is handy when you want to switch from say, a bow and flamethrowers combination to long bladed shoes and guns.Īn absolute necessity in this game is being able to use Witch Time effectively. You also have 2 combination sets available to edit which you can switch between at the touch of a button. You can’t do certain things, like use the bow with your feet, which makes sense. You can combine different weapons on your hands and boots to pretty much any combination you want. There’s flamethrowers you can attach to your shoes as well as my absolute favourite, a whip you can also have on your heels. There’s a beetle bow called Kafka, which is a cute nod to a disturbing play. You unlock more as you progress giving you time to enjoy and get to know each of them. I love the variety of weapons in Bayonetta 2. There’s no building up to mediocrity, from the very beginning you’re slaughtering angels with demonic powers and guns attached to your shoes. I do love the stories in both games and the way they tell them. I didn’t make an effort so seek out all the secrets in a stage instead I just ploughed through the story. I did the bare bones playthrough for Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2. One area of Bayonetta 2 I haven’t explored is unlocking different outfits for Bayonetta, rest assured that’s an option if you want to indulge. You can also unlock different characters to play as upon story completion. The game has 3 difficulty levels, I chose the middle one. Platinum Games are of course the company that created Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2. The medals range from stone, up to pure platinum. For every fight you complete you get a medal depending on how much time and damage you take. The levels are all linear with certain hidden areas with extra fights and challenges. It’s stylistic and humourous and it works. ![]() Real time events also are scattered throughout so keep your fingers on the buttons while watching. The cutscenes in Bayonetta are a mix of stills with voiceovers, and 3D action and voiceoves. Whether one is good and one is evil is debatable.Ī typical level on a Bayonetta game is a mix of mild 3D platforming, exploration, enemy fights, enemy boss fights, and epic cutscenes. The reality of Paradiso and Inferno however is that they very much seem the same however angels are baby faced and white and goldĪnd demons are cruel faced and made of darkness. The counterparts of the Umbran witches are the Sages who worship Paradiso and get their powers from there. If you hadn’t guessed Bayonetta is an Umbran witch, her prime deal is with my favourite demon, Madame butterfly. The downside to this being after they die their souls belong in inferno for all eternity. The Umbran witches make deals with demons in exchange for some of their powers. In the human realm there are regular humans then there are Umbran witches and Lumen sages. ![]() So quick intro to Bayonetta, there are three realities: the human realm, Inferno – which is like hell, and Paradiso – which is comparable to heaven. Well either way I got a bronze award overall which is better than a stone award. ![]() Was it the extra practice I had from the first game? Was I extra motivated because I love the short haircut better? Or was it just easier? Maybe I chose a different difficulty setting by accident. I somehow did better on Bayonetta 2 than I did on Bayonetta.
